“Tyson and the Studio Ness team helped transform our apartment into a home! His taste, attention to detail and organization made the whole process easy and fun. His work speaks for itself. Would highly recommend.”

At the top of a converted townhouse building in the heart of NoMad, this apartment was transformed from a bachelor’s personalized renovation into a warm, light filled sanctuary for a young family with two small daughters. He works in New York nightlife, she works in sales, and together they wanted a home that felt grounded after busy days, a place where family could gather and visiting relatives could stay comfortably. With soaring ceilings unique to the top floor and a layout shaped by the building’s layered history, the space offered a rare blend of character and openness.

The design pairs laid back California ease with a New York edge, a reflection of the homeowner’s West Coast roots and the couple’s shared love of travel. Warm neutrals form the backdrop, accented with black, white, navy, mustard, and green. In the living room, a gallery wall mixes travel photographs, sculptural pieces, and mirrors, including a Bay Area image taken by the client that sits at eye level as a daily reminder of home. The dining area centers around a navy banquette in a hardworking fabric suited for family life, paired with timeless, easy to clean fiberglass chairs. A custom mirror anchors the space and reflects shifting daylight throughout the day.
The kitchen was refreshed without a full renovation, yet the impact is dramatic. We replaced black countertops with light quartz, utilized Zellige tiles from counter to ceiling to highlight the room’s height, removed upper cabinets to open the vista, and updated the peninsula lighting to better suit the clients’ sensibility. The daughters’ shared room is divided into sleeping and study zones with a custom desk system that keeps the footprint open and adaptable as they grow. In the primary suite, a tall ceramic wall hanging elongates the room and frames the bed, creating a serene retreat for the parents. The girls’ bathroom was brightened with a periwinkle stripe that wraps the room and adds a playful architectural note. Playful, eclectic, and fun, the NoMad Apartment now reflects the rhythm of a young family and the joy of a home that evolves with them.
