High above the border of Hudson Yards and Chelsea, this duplex penthouse is a celestial retreat designed for a family whose life moves at a constant New York rhythm. He is a C-suite executive, she is a registered dietician and nutritionist, and together they needed a home that felt expressive, colorful, and reflective of their cool sensibility. After years in a monochrome gray apartment, they were ready for a fresh start. Spanning nearly 4000 square feet across three levels, with more than 1800 square feet of private outdoor space, the residence features soaring twenty foot ceilings, expansive casement windows, and panoramic views of the Hudson River and Manhattan skyline. With a growing family and an evolving art collection, they wanted a space that balanced personality with livability, and that became the foundation for our design approach.

At the heart of the design is the dramatic double height living room, where a custom curved sofa, upholstered in performance corduroy and raised cut velvet, floats in the center of the space and offers a built in ledge along the back for taking in the views, the fireplace, or the TV. A custom Jan Kath rug inspired by Hubble telescope imagery grounds the room with cosmic color, establishing the subtle space theme that threads through the rest of the home. We refreshed every surface, repainting cabinetry in an inky blue, refinishing the floors, updating countertops, and introducing custom millwork, sculptural lighting, and curated vintage pieces. A custom walnut bar cabinet with a high gloss lacquer interior adds warmth and rhythm, while carefully placed negative wall space allows the clients’ art collection to continue evolving.
Upstairs, the private spaces reflect the family’s daily life. Each child’s room includes custom study areas and design details tailored to their personalities, from an icy, ethereal bedroom created in collaboration with the eldest daughter to moon phase wallpaper and sports memorabilia in her brother’s room. Textiles throughout were chosen for durability and softness, including wool blend rugs and a custom stair runner that adds color and movement across levels. The result is a layered and livable home that feels calm, imaginative, and distinctly New York. Floating above the city, this Hudson Yards Penthouse is a modern sanctuary in the sky, enriched by color, cosmos, and the rhythm of family life.
