At Lantern House along Manhattan’s High Line, we created a warm and design-forward retreat for a family of three whose busy lives unfold across different corners of the city each day. Their home needed to feel grounding and connected, a serene counterpoint to the urban energy outside their door, while also reflecting the architectural pedigree of the iconic building. With sweeping Hudson River views and sculptural, bowed windows, the apartment offered both beauty and complexity, asking for thoughtful space planning to make each room feel effortless and inviting.

The unique geometry of the windows shaped our approach. Although the rooms appeared spacious on the plans, the curves created natural challenges for furniture placement and window treatments. We leaned into these forms by introducing window seats and designing custom Studio Ness pieces for the living room, including the sectional and a hand-crafted area rug sized and shaped precisely for the space. The custom built-in fireplace features a metallic finish with tones of gold, bronze, and black, paired with a bronze mirror backdrop that adds depth and softness to the room. In the kitchen and dining area, custom millwork, lighting, and a custom dark stone dining table bring cohesion to the existing cabinetry and create a gentle contrast with the kitchen stone for a sense of balance and calm.
Each of the bedrooms is tailored to its occupant. The primary suite is wrapped in plaster and soothing neutrals, offering a quiet place to unwind. The office is layered in warm taupes and tans, complete with a lounge zone and a tactile sofa that gives the homeowner a private space to take calls or watch television. Their teenage son’s room is monochromatic in black, white, and navy, with custom solutions for displaying his collections and artwork tied to his interests in music and sports. Throughout the home, art plays a defining role. A ceramic installation adds texture to the main living space, and a striking piece by Jenna Krypell anchors the end of the hallway, guiding the eye through the home. The result is fun, warm, and luxe, with every detail designed to support a life that is both grounded and beautifully lived.
